At Chinese New Year presents of money are given in red
envelopes with good luck characters on them. Presents of money given in red
envelopes must not be refused.
Immediate family give presents to children on New Year's Eve - this is
called Ya Sui Qian - which means 'suppressing age money' - it is meant to
stop the children getting older. this comes from the tradition that everyone
becomes one year older on New Year's Day.
Red is a lucky colour and will bring good luck to the person receiving the
gift.
Chinese New Year provides an ideal opportunity to use fortune cookies as a
marketing tool to promote your business and join in the festivities!
